Rosemary's Baby
Kalimantan, Indonesia
© 2000 Christine Krieg

Rosemary, the mother, is an "ex-captive". She was rescued from the illegal animal trade and brought to Camp Leakey where she was rehabilitated to be able to survive in the wild. Once released she became pregnant and gave birth to this baby born in the wild, a gorgeous demonstration that rehabilitation works.

However, "ex-captives" often return to the camp for the once daily feeding of bananas and milk as they often cannot find enough food in the forest. The dramatic loss of their habitat, due to the rampant illegal logging in Tanjung Puting National Park forces many animals back to the rehabilitation camps for food.
